Why Jessica Sanchez Should Be Your American Idol 2012 Winner

Filipino-Mexican-American singing sensation Jessica Sanchez from Chula Vista, California will face Phillip Phillips from Leesburg, Georgia for the American Idol Season 11 finale taking place at the Nokia Theatre performance show on Tuesday, May 22.

The majority of past winners from American Idol are from “the South”. Southern winners include Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Fantasia, Ruben Studdard, Taylor Hicks, Scotty McCreery, and Kris Allen. Other past popular Southern American Idol finalists include Clay Aiken and Chris Daughtry. Southern singers are known for singing diverse styles ranging from Country to R&B. They also have a huge demographic of followers. Guess who is also from “the South?” That is right, Philip Phillips.

Jessica Sanchez is the only American Idol finalist to have Asian and Filipino ancestry, and she certainly looks Filipina. That is certainly a big reason why she has such a loyal Filipino fan base. The last time an American Idol contestant with Filipino ancestry made it far was Jasmine Trias, who placed 3rd.

Phillip Phillips may be getting votes for being a Southerner, but that may not be the only reason. Young, white, teenage girls which is a huge voting demographic for American Idol will vote for Phillips. This reminds me when Kris Allen won his season over Adam Lambert. America may have picked the “cuter one ” and the more conservative one. America may have not been ready for Adam Lambert’s unconventional look and being gay. Being gay is currently a hot topic due to Barrack Obama’s stance of supporting gay marriage and Manny Pacquaio not supporting gay marriage. That is another subject to touch upon later. Coincidentally, Kris Allen is supporting Jessica Sanchez along with Filipino celebrities of the Black Eyed Peas and boxing sensation and Filipino Congressman Manny Pacquiao.

Jessica Sanchez should win and get the votes. She is clearly the best singer regardless of American Idol being a popularity contest. American idol judge Randy Jackson has said Jessica Sanchez is one of the best singers in the nation. That being said, she will be a huge international star and is one of the best singers in the world.

Vote Jessica Sanchez!
